5 Ways to Winterize Your Skin

Winter is tough on skin. Between cold, windy air outside and dry heat inside, dry skin is inevitable. Moisture gets pulled out of skin, cell turnover slows, production of ceramides (the barrier protecting fats in skin) decreases. When the moisture barrier is stressed, skin can become dry, chapped, and lacking in luminance.

To bring your skin back into beautiful balance, it’s time to adjust your routine with a little moisture infusion. Read on for some key products you can use to protect your skin from dryness and irritation during the colder months.

1. Cleansing Milk Gentle Non-Drying Cleanser

This cleanser is good for very dry to dry combination skin, as well as sensitive and mature skin, combining the gentle moisturizing effects of glycerin with grape seed oil for added moisturizing power. It also contains antioxidants that help heal skin damage. Gentle and safe for your skin, it can even be used with a cotton pad to remove makeup at the end of the day.

2. TotaloeTM Calming and Hydrating Gel

For skin that needs hydrating after cleansing, this oil-free gel contains aloe and green tea extract that will temporarily tighten skin and get it ready for makeup application. For skin that has been windburned or exposed to dry air in winter, this gel will fight redness and moisturize at the same time. It can be used with all skin types.

3. Day Treatment Lotion SPF 15

Wearing this lotion every day will protect your skin against sun exposure to UVA and UVB rays. It contains aloe and zinc peptides and can be used for all skin types. In addition to sun protection, this lotion reduces skin irritation and can be mixed with loose powder mineral makeup for a tinted makeup base.

4. Marine Skin Nourishing Cream

If you have dry or combination skin, the combination of grape seed oil, algae extract and oat protein in this cream will replenish your skin as well as moisturize it. This cream can be used as a day or nighttime moisturizer depending on your needs.

5. Allantoin Sedating & Hydrating Lotion

When your otherwise healthy skin becomes irritated by fierce winter winds or dried out by a lack of humidified air, this lotion will calm your skin and reduce redness and inflammation. It can be applied on top of another product to alleviate dryness 1 to 3 times a day as needed. Your skin will feel better in no time.

A moisturizer should be applied after the other products in your regimen. Allow serums to dry before applying the moisturizer. If you’re in the process of clearing acne, use moisturizer sparingly to avoid impeding the clearing process. For acne-prone skin, use Day Treatment Lotion SPF 15 daily and Totaloe for added moisture.
