5 Ways to Love Your Lips

Lips are delicate. Life is harsh. Fortunately, it doesn’t take more than a few simple tricks to keep lips looking plump, hydrated, and youthful. Show your lips some love with these all-important tips for keeping in the pink.

No Scrubs

The skin on your lips is thin and delicate. Using a scrub can be damaging and cause micro-tearing. Not only can that abrasive action leave lips looking irritated and raw, but it can provoke hyperpigmentation, making your lips look more brown than pink. Leave the scrubs for body and face, and condition your lips with emollient balms instead.

If lips are excessively flaky, you can do some gentle chemical exfoliation. Apply a few pumps of Vivant’s hydrating Skin Nourishing Toner to a cotton pad and gently wipe your lips or use it as a compress. This formula is a nourishing and healing blend of botanical, lipid, and humectant ingredients, including mandelic acid, green tea extract, kiwi extract, honey, rosehip oil, niacinamide, and witch hazel.

Hands Off

Lips lack sweat and sebaceous glands, so they don’t produce the natural protective oils that help skin remain protected and hydrated. Their reduced barrier function and thinner structure makes them susceptible to chapping and flaking. Picking at the flakes will strip the already minimal protection from your lips even further. It’s also a great way to introduce infection.

Hold Your Tongue

When your lips feel dry, you may be tempted to lick them, but this will only make them drier. As saliva evaporates, it pulls moisture from the lips. And while we’re on the topic, close your mouth. All that air blowing over your lips with each inhale and exhale is stripping moisture away from your lips.

Nourish Your Lips

Foods rich in vitamins B and C and Omega-3 fatty acids help support your lips from the inside out. Stick to a healthy diet. Moderate your consumption of alcohol to avoid its dehydrating effects. Drink plenty of water to increase hydration.

Plump and Protect

Both aging and environmental factors contribute to the development of fine lines and wrinkles on the lips. Additionally, with age, the lips lose natural collagen and elastin, which causes lips to look thinner and less supple. You don’t have to resort to painful injections to keep lips looking full and healthy.

A plumping balm can make lips appear fuller, fill in lines, and bring a natural rosy hue while keeping them hydrated and supple. Try Vivant’s MaxiLip with peptides to stimulate collagen and elastin production, oxygenating ingredients to increase blood flow, and emollients to moisturize and protect. The effects are semi-permanent and cumulative. Volume and definition will increase and remain over time with regular use. If you are using fillers, MaxiLip will extend their effects.

Fun Facts About Your Lips:

Do you know why your lips appear red? Fewer layers of skin and translucency of the tissue make underlying blood vessels visible.

The pale edge of skin that demarcates the lips from the surrounding area of your face is called the vermilion border.

The contour of the line formed by the vermilion border of the upper lip is called the Cupid’s bow because of its arced shape.

Your lips have their own print, just like your fingertips.
