Shaylyn Gilmer reveals her personal recipe for radical rejuvenation and a killer smoothie.
Finish this sentence. I believe true beauty comes from….
Within. I love this quote from Khalil Gibran: “Beauty is not in the face. Beauty is a light in the heart.”
What’s your morning skin care ritual?
Mandelic Acid Cleanser followed by Rejuv RX, Spin Trap, Marine Cream, Wink Eye Rejuvenation Cream, and of course, SPF.
I never leave the house without…
Sunscreen.
Other than product, what do you think has the most impact on skin health?
Definitely hydration and I believe a healthy and well balanced diet has a huge impact on skin health.
Do you have a go-to skin support recipe?
I start the day with an antioxidant-rich smoothie. I use berries and kale, which are loaded with Vitamin C, great for collagen formation and production. Vitamin A- and E-rich almond milk and wheat germ, packed with antioxidants to maintain healthy and youthful skin. I also add some fresh turmeric root, which is anti-inflammatory and loaded with antioxidants.
What’s the best clear skin diet?
I tell my clients to steer clear of dairy, which in my opinion, may be a trigger for acne. Also avoid foods containing a lot of sugar, which can cause inflammation and accelerate the aging process. Stay hydrated....water, water, water. Boost it with a slice of lemon for some added vitamin C.
How important is sleep to your beauty regimen?
Sleep is very important to my beauty regimen. Lack of sleep can lead inflammation and accelerate the aging process. I like to start my day fresh and well rested. Fortunately I feel very well rested with six to seven hours a night.
What advice do you give your clients (skin care or otherwise)?
We live in such busy times. I see women trying to balance careers and home life. I like to stress the importance of taking time out for themselves so they can be recharged and energized for all their responsibilities.
What are the skin issues you see most?
The most common concern I’ve found with my clients is hyperpigmentation. I’ve seen fantastic results using a combination of Mandelic Acid wash, Derm-A-Renew, Bleaching Serum Forté and Daily Repair Pads.
Not protecting their skin from the sun. Daily SPF is crucial!! Wearing wide-brimmed hat for extended time outdoors is a must!
It’s travel season. As a former flight attendant, do you have any special advice for skin care while traveling?
Don't skimp on your regular skin care routine. Packing the products you use daily will help keep your skin looking good. It's hard when traveling to eat a well balanced diet and stay on an exercise routine, but doing the best you can will help. Keeping your skin hydrated is crucial. Drink a lot of water. And don't forget your SPF!
On Saturday morning, you’ll find me…
At Vanity facialing away! Sometimes I start as early as 7:00 a.m. I want to give clients juggling hectic work schedules and children's sporting events an opportunity to take a little time out for themselves.
What’s the best thing about what you do?
Everything! I truly love what I do. Building relationships with clients and sharing in their joy when they see significant improvements in their skin is very gratifying.
